The Creativity Retreat at the 5&Dime
Join us for a refreshing weekend of creating art, eating delicious foods, and hanging with local artists.
What is a Creativity Retreat?
This event is a 3 day escape into Selma, Alabama where guests will participate in 4 art workshops, have all meals prepared by wonderful chefs, and meet local artists. It takes place at the historic 5&Dime, located in the downtown square. This lovely building has been completely refurbished. Downstairs is an open space that will serve as the studio and dining area. Upstairs is home to the 5 Woolworth Lofts, complete with a small kitchen, local art, and antiques. You'll be sure to leave this retreat as a rested & rejuvenated individual. This retreat is limited to 10 guests.
Dates: September 20-22, 2024.
Cost: $1500 per person.
4 Art Workshops
lead by AC Reeves
Nuno Felting: Using wool, cotton gauze, silk, and other materials, you will create felted soap and a cotton/wool blend scarf.
Cyanotype Sun Prints: Using pre-treated paper and silk with botanicals, lace, negatives, and other treasures around the studio, you will create blue and white prints on paper and silk.
Paper-making: You will work on making paper sheets, cast paper, and a wet collage.
Collage & Assemblage: Participants will work with their choice of supplies from the studio in addition to their creations to create matted collages and assemblages.
Nourishment
Halima Salazar & Dria Price make up Gimbia's Kitchen, known for it's authentic Nigerian cuisine and history lessons about the evolution of West African food into southern US food as we know it today. During this retreat, you can expect meals that are not only delicious, but are also nourishing to the body. This team consists of a trained chef from Chef Academy in Nigeria and a Registered Dietitian. You don't want to miss an opportunity to try foods from this duo.
